Improving sewer system set to transform Livingston community

In a recent government meeting, significant discussions centered around sewage treatment improvements and a cooperative agreement with the town of Livingston. The meeting highlighted a new sewage treatment plan set to be implemented just south of the interstate, which aims to enhance water quality by reducing pollutants entering Coyote Creek. Officials confirmed that the project has already secured a discharge permit with strict limits, ensuring that the treated sewage will meet high environmental standards.

The plan involves treating sewage from approximately 60 homes, with the expectation that the new system will significantly lower pollutant levels compared to existing residential treatment facilities. The meeting also addressed the operational aspects of the sewage system, with the town of Livingston poised to take over maintenance once improvements are completed.

A resolution was passed unanimously, authorizing the parish president to execute a corporate endeavor agreement with the Livingston airport district for wetland drainage improvements, which includes the sewer system project. However, questions arose regarding the requirement for residents to connect to the new system, as current funding only allows for partial infrastructure installation. Officials clarified that while residents could opt to connect, there is no immediate mandate due to funding limitations.
