Community leaders unite to combat crime and build trust

In a recent meeting of the El Paso County Board of Commissioners, community engagement and crime prevention took center stage as local leaders and residents gathered to discuss the importance of building relationships between law enforcement and neighborhoods. Sheriff Roy Bull highlighted the ongoing efforts to foster community ties through events such as National Night Out, which encourages residents to connect with each other and local law enforcement in a positive setting.

Sheriff Bull noted that his office is actively participating in ten community events, including gatherings where residents can enjoy food and engage with law enforcement personnel. Giovanni, the crime prevention coordinator, introduced representatives from various neighborhood watch groups who shared their experiences and motivations for collaborating with the sheriff's office. Ernest Green, representing the Retreat at Timber Ridge, spoke about the importance of establishing a partnership with law enforcement early on, especially as their community grows to include approximately 11,000 homes. He underscored the value of introducing children to first responders and fostering a sense of safety and vigilance among residents.

Commissioners expressed their support for these initiatives, emphasizing the critical role of knowing one’s neighbors in maintaining a safe community.
