Council honors heroes and calls for community unity

During a recent city council meeting, members paid tribute to first responders and reflected on the significance of September 11th, emphasizing the importance of community resilience and togetherness. Councilman Baxler expressed gratitude for the courage of firefighters and all first responders, acknowledging the challenging nature of their work.

Clerk Walters announced upcoming voter registration events at City Hall, scheduled for September 28th and October 10th, both from 12 PM to 9 PM. Additionally, a local registration event facilitated by sororities is planned for October 17th from 12 PM to 3 PM on the plaza. Early voting will commence on October 26th at City Hall and the Dole Center.

Council members also took a moment to honor the memories of those lost on September 11th, with Councilman Thompson urging the community to cherish life and support one another, especially in light of recent losses in the entertainment industry, including musicians Frankie Beverly and James Earl Jones.

Councilwoman Brown highlighted a pressing need for board members across several city boards, including the cable television advisory board and the board of ethics, calling for community members to submit their resumes to fill these vacancies.
