Police crack down on illegal fireworks ahead of holidays

During a recent government meeting, local police officials addressed the ongoing challenges associated with fireworks enforcement, particularly during the holiday seasons. The department highlighted that most calls they receive pertain to illegal fireworks, especially around the Fourth of July and New Year's Eve.

Officials clarified the distinction between legal and illegal fireworks, noting that while consumer fireworks such as sparklers and ground-based displays are permitted, aerial fireworks—those that explode in the air and produce loud bangs—are illegal. The police emphasized their focus on enforcing these regulations, particularly during peak holiday periods when fireworks usage surges.

A representative showcased a legal firework display, illustrating its size and impact while reinforcing that it complied with state laws. The display, described as impressive yet compliant, lasted nearly two minutes and was conducted safely within the legal parameters.

The police department also reminded residents of the regulations surrounding fireworks usage, stating that while vendors sell fireworks in advance of holidays, usage is restricted between 11 PM and 8 AM, except during the designated holidays. This enforcement aims to ensure public safety and minimize disturbances in the community.
