Community unites to honor fallen officer and tornado heroes

During a recent government meeting, Rock County supervisors gathered to address various community matters, reflecting on recent events and recognizing individuals for their contributions. The meeting commenced with an invocation led by Supervisor Marshall, who expressed gratitude for the absence of casualties following severe weather and tornadoes that struck the area. He acknowledged the efforts of first responders and volunteers who assisted affected residents.

The meeting proceeded with a roll call, confirming the presence of 27 supervisors, followed by the approval of the consent agenda, which included the adoption of minutes and recognition of county employees. Notably, Supervisor Bostwick highlighted the community's support during a recent shelter initiative, thanking volunteers and emphasizing the importance of community engagement.

A somber moment was observed as Supervisor Boehlke called attention to the tragic death of Officer Corey Prew, a youth counselor who lost his life in the line of duty. The board held a moment of silence in his honor, reflecting on the sacrifices made by public servants.

Supervisor Tillman commended the coordinated response from county resources during the recent tornadoes, noting the absence of a state disaster assistance program in Wisconsin, which he suggested should be addressed with state representatives.

The meeting also featured several recognitions of county employees for their dedicated service, including Jeremy Zajac, Sherry Oja, and Mary Beaver, who were acknowledged for their significant contributions to Rock County. Oja, who is set to retire, was particularly praised for her leadership in financial management, while Beaver was remembered for her compassion and dedication to the community.
