Planning Commission Approves New Dispensary Amid Community Concerns

The Humboldt County Planning Commission convened a special meeting on Thursday, addressing key agenda items, including a conditional use permit for the DC Eden Dispensary and Distribution Facility. The meeting, which allowed for participation via Zoom and in person, began with a roll call confirming a quorum of commissioners present.

Following a brief public comment period with no attendees stepping forward, the commission moved to the consent calendar, where the dispensary permit was the sole item. A request for a hearing on this item was made, prompting a discussion among commissioners regarding the permit's transfer to a new operator after the previous one abandoned the site.

Planning Director emphasized that the new property owner seeks to continue previously approved uses at the location. Questions from commissioners focused on potential alterations to the building and the presence of nearby residences, with assurances that notifications had been sent to residents within 300 feet of the project.

The commission confirmed that no significant exterior changes were planned, and any interior modifications would be assessed during the building permit process. After addressing all inquiries and confirming no public opposition, the commission proceeded to a vote, ultimately approving the DC Eden Dispensary Project with unanimous support.
