Mural expansion approved to honor Martin Luther King Jr.

In a recent government meeting, officials approved plans for a mural at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center, set to be unveiled on August 13 at 3:30 PM. The project, led by artist Mister Limus, aims to expand the existing mural by adding an additional 45 feet by 15 feet of artwork that symbolizes peace, complementing the themes represented by Martin Luther King Jr.

Mister Limus, who previously painted the existing mural on the building, discussed the design process, emphasizing the need to work around existing architectural features such as windows and columns. The mural will enhance the visibility of the building, which has recently undergone landscaping changes that removed a tree obstructing the view.

During the meeting, members expressed interest in potentially incorporating additional figures significant to the community into the mural, suggesting that other important historical figures could be featured on a different section of the building. The total cost for the mural project is estimated at $10,000, with current expenses projected at $9,000.

The timeline for the project indicates that Mister Limus is available to begin work in September, pending approval from the Northeast Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) board. The meeting concluded with a unanimous consensus to move forward with the mural, highlighting the community's commitment to honoring the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. while also recognizing other influential figures in the local history.
