Election officials prepare for June 25 primary showdown

In a recent government meeting, officials provided a comprehensive update on the upcoming June 25th primary election, highlighting key logistical details for voters. Over 36,000 mail ballots are set to be dispatched to the post office on June 4th, with all 6247 ballot drop boxes opening by June 6th. These drop boxes, equipped with video surveillance, are strategically located across various municipalities, including Carbondale, Newcastle, Glenwood Springs, and Rifle, and will be accessible from June 17th to June 24th.

Election day will see four vote centers operational from 7 AM to 7 PM, where community election judges will assist voters with in-person voting and other election services. Voters who have not received their ballots by June 12th are encouraged to verify their registration details online, as ballots cannot be mailed after June 17th.

The meeting also addressed two tax abatement hearings for JRS Holdings LLC, both resulting from classification errors that reclassified properties from vacant land to agricultural use. The first abatement totals $10,093.80, while the second amounts to $17,657.40. Both requests were approved unanimously by the board.

Additionally, the county manager introduced Coral Miller as the new fairgrounds and events director, who was unable to attend the meeting. The board also approved fee waiver requests for the Rocky Mountain Baptist Church and the Rocky Mountain Bible Camp, allowing them to utilize county facilities for their events, with a total of $5,100 in fees waived.
