Students make a global impact with baby care project

Students from local high schools showcased their impressive achievements at a recent government meeting, highlighting their commitment to community service and academic excellence.

Representatives from Enterprise High School, including students Adri Earl and Madison Prisby, presented their impactful project aimed at improving neonatal care in Roatan, Honduras. The initiative, in collaboration with the nonprofit organization Swaddle Love, focused on providing essential baby kits to address the critical issue of hypothermia among newborns. The students successfully raised over $3,900, exceeding their initial fundraising goal, and delivered more than 3,800 items, including diapers, blankets, and onesies. Their efforts not only garnered recognition at the state and national levels, winning gold medals and the prestigious FCCLA National Community Service Award, but also made headlines in Honduras, where their contributions were described as an \"answer to our prayers\" by local healthcare providers.

Dixie High School also celebrated its students' accomplishments, with 11 participants attending national competitions. Notably, Glenn Butterfield secured 7th place in related technical math, while other students excelled in various categories, showcasing the strength of their SkillsUSA program.

Desert Hills High School's SkillsUSA team was recognized for their academic prowess, with their quiz bowl team achieving 9th place nationally. Individual accolades included Dylan Pace earning a bronze medal in screen printing and Jonathan Seth Ashton placing 6th in job skills demonstration.

The meeting underscored the importance of extracurricular programs in fostering leadership and community engagement among students, as they not only excel academically but also make significant contributions to global issues.
