Historic Paris Mill restoration moves closer to completion

During a recent government meeting, officials discussed the final stages of restoration for the historic Paris Mill in Park County, a project that has been in the works since 2017. The mill, recognized as the last remaining intact ball mill in Colorado, is nearing completion and will soon be accessible for guided tours.

Commissioner Mike Bridal, who initially hoped for the project’s completion by the end of his term, expressed optimism about the progress made. The restoration is funded through a combination of state historic funds and South Park National Heritage funds, totaling $204,068, with a 50/50 match for the work.

The planned renovations include interior rehabilitation, structural improvements, and the installation of handrails and lighting, which will enhance safety and accessibility for visitors. The upgrades aim to create a designated public circulation path within the mill, allowing for controlled tours that highlight its historical significance.

Commissioners noted the importance of the mill as a cultural treasure for the community, emphasizing its potential to attract visitors and educate them about the region's mining history. The motion to approve the contract for the remaining work was unanimously supported by the board, marking a significant step forward in preserving this historical landmark.
