City moves to acquire key park property for expansion

The site is strategically positioned, bordered by Powell Street to the north and Bowdre and Maleje Streets on the east and west, respectively. The acquisition aligns with the city's parks and recreation strategic plan, which identifies the expansion of Stanford Avenue Park as a key opportunity. The property is zoned for mixed-use, allowing for both residential and recreational developments.

City officials emphasized the necessity of ensuring that any acquisition complies with the general plan, which mandates that the purpose and extent of the acquisition must align with established goals. These goals include the creation of a comprehensive open space system and the development of new public spaces that serve as community focal points.
