City plans urgent repairs to hazardous manholes

During a recent government meeting, officials addressed ongoing concerns regarding the condition of several manhole covers along Whitlock Avenue. Residents have reported deteriorating conditions, particularly near Governor Barnes' residence and close to Marietta High School, prompting discussions on necessary repairs.

City representatives confirmed that a contractor has been secured to undertake the repairs, with work scheduled to commence shortly after the Fourth of July holiday. The project will focus on manholes from the Loop extending out past the high school.

To minimize disruption, the contractor will operate during daytime hours, specifically from 9 AM to 3 PM, avoiding peak traffic times. This decision was made to mitigate the impact on local residents and commuters. Flaggers will be present to manage traffic flow, and the use of fast-setting concrete is expected to expedite the repair process, allowing lanes to be reopened promptly after work is completed.

Officials expressed optimism that the repairs will be completed within a week, alleviating the ongoing issues for residents and improving overall road safety.
