Residents rally against commercial zoning in residential area

During a recent government meeting, community concerns were raised regarding a proposed mulching site on Hawkins Thompson Lane, which residents fear could disrupt their residential neighborhood. Rochelle Thompson, a local resident, expressed her opposition, highlighting the road's current poor condition and the potential for increased traffic and litter if the site is approved.

Thompson emphasized that the area is primarily residential, and the introduction of commercial operations could lead to undesirable changes in the community's character. She pointed out that the existing Woodyard dump, which began operations without proper permits, has already negatively impacted the area, making the road difficult for two vehicles to pass simultaneously.

The discussion also touched on the motivations behind the proposed mulching site, with Thompson questioning whether the owner, Mr. Jenkins, would profit from the venture. She argued that while recycling is beneficial, it should not come at the expense of residential quality of life. Thompson urged the planning and zoning committee to maintain the area's residential zoning, warning that further commercial development could lead to more traffic, noise, and environmental degradation.
