The Georgia Department of Administrative Services has announced the release of a notice of funding opportunity aimed at enhancing clinical services for military personnel, veterans, and their families. This initiative is part of a broader effort to engage a wide range of organizations across the state in providing essential mental and behavioral health care.
Currently, eight organizations are in the application process, with expectations of significantly more participants, as last year saw around 50 organizations begin their applications. The funding, totaling $1 million, will be allocated based on compliance with House Bill 414, which outlines specific legal requirements for eligibility. An independent board will oversee the selection process to ensure transparency and fairness.
In addition to the funding announcement, officials emphasized the need for legislative advocacy to secure increased funding for veteran housing. Proposed measures include imposing limitations on rent, raising required down payments, and implementing stronger eviction protections for veterans and their families. This comprehensive approach aims to address both immediate mental health needs and long-term housing stability for Georgia's military community.
