In a recent government meeting, a motion to approve a variance request for property use was passed with conditions aimed at minimizing neighborhood disruption. The motion, which received a 4 to 1 vote in favor, stipulates that the property cannot be used for residential or commercial purposes and restricts woodworking activities to before 8 PM to reduce noise complaints from neighbors.
The meeting also addressed a variance case concerning a property on Fairfield Drive, where the applicant, Abed Mohammed, sought to reduce the front setback from 35 feet to 30 feet and the side setback from 10 feet to 8 feet. This request was met with opposition from three local residents, including Mitch Jablow, who expressed concerns that the proposed changes would encroach too closely to their property, particularly affecting their master bedroom and bath.
Jablow criticized the applicant for allegedly overstepping zoning regulations during renovations, suggesting that the request for a variance was an attempt to rectify prior construction that should have adhered to existing guidelines. The East Cobb Civic Association also voiced their concerns regarding the implications of the variance on community standards.
The board is expected to deliberate further on the matter, weighing the applicant's need for renovation against the concerns of neighboring residents.
