Residents demand urgent action to protect homes from flooding

Residents of Aquatic Drive voiced urgent concerns regarding the deteriorating conditions of a nearby pond during a recent government meeting. Martie Labow, a local homeowner, highlighted the need for bulkheads behind their properties to prevent further land erosion, stating that residents have already lost significant portions of their lawns. Labow emphasized that seven out of eight homeowners in the area signed a petition requesting these bulkheads, as well as a more secure fence to deter unauthorized access to the pond.

Labow recounted troubling incidents, including a neighbor's dog being injured, which she attributed to people trespassing in the area. She urged the government to install clearer signage indicating restricted access and to provide garbage cans to help manage littering, which has become a persistent issue for residents.

Dolly McCormick, another Aquatic Drive resident, echoed Labow's sentiments, expressing frustration over the accumulation of trash on her property and the potential for flooding. McCormick warned that the proposed changes to water management could exacerbate flooding risks for their homes, urging officials to prioritize the bulkhead project over other developments, such as a dog park.

Both residents implored local officials to consider the safety and well-being of the community, emphasizing that their homes should take precedence in funding decisions. The meeting underscored the residents' collective plea for immediate action to protect their properties and enhance their quality of life.
