Demolition approved for historic home after hurricane damage

The owner reported extensive termite damage and subsequent destruction caused by Hurricane Ian, which rendered the house structurally unsound. Faced with these issues, the owner proposed demolishing the existing structure and starting anew, particularly after observing a recent lot split in the neighborhood that could benefit their larger lot. The motion to approve the lot split was unanimously carried by the committee.

The second application, presented by Richard Anderson on behalf of his family, sought approval for a lot split at 402 Carmelita Street. Anderson outlined plans for remodeling an existing home and constructing a new addition on the newly created lot. The committee emphasized the need for proper permits for any demolition or construction work, particularly regarding sewer installation, which would require connection from the alley. The application met the minimum requirements for single-family or duplex development, and no significant objections were raised during the discussion.
