Riviera Beach project promises 2000 jobs and economic boost

In a recent meeting of the Riviera Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), city officials and developers outlined a transformative project expected to significantly boost the local economy and job market. The meeting, described as historic, followed months of discussions among council members, staff, and the community.

City Manager remarks highlighted the potential for a large-scale development that could serve as a catalyst for economic growth in Riviera Beach. The project, spearheaded by Forest Development and led by Peter Butarian, aims to create approximately 2,000 jobs—1,300 direct, 250 indirect, and 300 induced—while generating an estimated $4 million in annual tax revenue for the city.

The development will utilize Tax Increment Financing (TIF), which is essential for funding the CRA's initiatives. The project is projected to be valued at around $425 million, contributing significantly to the city's tax base. The developers emphasized their commitment to local hiring, with plans to prioritize employment opportunities for Riviera Beach residents throughout the construction and operational phases.

Additionally, the project aims to address the housing crisis in the area. Developers proposed to either contribute $1 million to the city's housing trust fund or directly build affordable housing units as part of the project. This dual approach is designed to enhance workforce housing availability while also promoting local employment.

Community engagement has been a priority, with extensive outreach efforts including door-to-door canvassing and multiple public meetings to inform residents about the project and gather feedback.
