Fire station plans evolve into community center proposal

During a recent government meeting, board members discussed plans for the Hinkle fire station, considering a proposal to transform the facility into a dual-purpose building that would serve as both a fire station and a community center. The current design only accommodates fire operations, but the proposed changes would relocate fire services to the second floor, allowing the ground level to be utilized for community events, complete with a small kitchen area.

The board is currently reviewing architectural drawings and plans to solicit bids for the proposed modifications. This initiative aims to enhance community engagement by providing a space for parties, meetings, and other events, similar to existing community centers in the area.

Additionally, the board clarified that the funding for the recently approved HVAC system at the Rossville facility was sourced from the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) allocation designated for facility improvements, rather than excess funds. This clarification was made to ensure transparency regarding the financial management of community resources.

The meeting concluded with a motion to enter an executive session to discuss personnel and real estate matters, after which the board returned without any additional actions to report. The session was adjourned shortly thereafter.
