Community rallies for urgent housing near university campus

During a recent government meeting, community members voiced strong support for a proposed housing development near the RT Park in Clovis, emphasizing its necessity for local students and the overall growth of the area. Alumni and residents highlighted the lack of nearby housing options for students attending the university, arguing that such accommodations are essential for fostering a vibrant community.

One resident, representing former and current students, expressed a desire for the approval of campus housing, stating that many classmates wished for this development to have been realized sooner. The sentiment was echoed by Mark Waller, a local resident who praised the proposal for enhancing walkability and the trail system, which he believes would be compromised if students are forced to live further away.

Bob Davis, a long-time resident and former planning commission chairman, reflected on the historical development of the tech park and urged the commission to consider the implications of either standard housing subdivisions or dormitory-style apartments. He stressed the importance of creating jobs in the area and the need for a strategic approach to housing that aligns with the tech park's growth.

Dorey Sesemi, representing Granville Homes, also expressed support for the city's cleanup efforts and indicated a willingness to review the extensive information presented during the meeting.
