City of Norman launches innovative police communication system

In a recent government meeting, city officials discussed several community initiatives and updates aimed at enhancing local services and support systems. Key highlights included the introduction of warrant clearing services, which will assist residents with various legal issues, including traffic violations and outstanding fines. Council members also announced a resource fair scheduled for tomorrow at The Well, featuring numerous local organizations, and a graduation ceremony for the Norman Police Academy set for Thursday at 2 PM. This event will celebrate the graduation of six new officers who will soon join the police force.

Additionally, the opening of a new emergency operations center, initially set for the 18th of this month, has been postponed to August, with a specific date yet to be confirmed. This facility, a voter-approved project, will enhance the city's emergency communication capabilities and is designed to withstand severe weather events.

The meeting also highlighted the implementation of new technology by the Norman Police Department, which will provide automated updates to residents who request police assistance, improving communication and service efficiency. Lastly, the city announced that starting August 1, the sanitation crew will take over curbside recycling services, which had previously been managed by a private contractor since its inception in 2008.
