Architect reveals ambitious plans for Lendly Elementary expansion

During a recent government meeting, David Powell, lead architect from SHP, provided an update on the Lendly Elementary School project, highlighting significant developments in the school's master plan. The original plan, established in 2019, proposed a 100-seat addition to accommodate growing enrollment, which had reached 504 students against a built capacity of 412, primarily supported by mobile units on campus.

Powell outlined the evolution of the project, noting that discussions had shifted from merely adding space to a more comprehensive approach that includes renovating the existing facility and constructing new additions. This revised scope now encompasses the creation of a STEM center, reflecting a broader educational strategy.

The estimated cost for the initial addition was $3.8 million; however, the updated project scope has escalated the total estimated cost to approximately $49.5 million. This increase is attributed to rising construction costs and changing student enrollment patterns across the county.

The meeting emphasized the importance of enhancing campus safety and accessibility as part of the ongoing development. As the project progresses, stakeholders are focused on ensuring that the improvements align with the educational needs of the community.
