Residents demand action on church land annexation violations

In a recent council meeting, discussions centered around the proposed annexation of 22.03 acres of land owned by WellSpring Church and the YMCA, which has been tabled for further consideration. Residents expressed concerns regarding unresolved deed violations stemming from a legal settlement established in 2001, which restricts the land's use to church-related functions.

Local resident Kathy raised alarms about the potential legal implications of proceeding with the annexation before these violations are addressed. She emphasized that moving forward without resolution could invite further legal complications, potentially involving more parties than the six residents currently engaged in the matter. Kathy highlighted WellSpring's previous disregard for legal agreements, citing violations in both 2016 and 2024.

Jim Pike, another resident, echoed these sentiments, stating that while the community supports the YMCA's presence, they are firm in their request for the council to delay the annexation until the issues with WellSpring are resolved. He noted that residents have attempted to communicate with WellSpring but have received little response, further complicating the situation.

Despite the residents' concerns, the council moved to approve the annexation as presented, passing the motion unanimously. The decision has left some community members apprehensive about the future use of the land and the implications of WellSpring's past actions.
