City Council Moves Forward with Controversial Annexation Plan

In a recent Georgetown City Council meeting, officials unanimously approved the acquisition of waterline easement rights from property owners Benjamin and Brenda Broussard. This decision is part of the Southlake Water Treated Transmission Line Project, aimed at enhancing the city's water infrastructure.

The council also addressed a zoning map amendment concerning a 22.03-acre tract for the YMCA of Georgetown. This item, which returned for a second reading after not receiving a unanimous vote in a previous session, is located along Williams Drive. The council had initially approved the ordinance with a 6 to 1 vote, but it was clarified during the meeting that the vote was actually 7 to 1, with one council member absent.

Assistant Planning Director Travis Baird presented the details of the annexation, which includes a section of Williams Drive. The council is set to hear public comments on this matter, with residents encouraged to voice their opinions before any further discussions or motions are made.

The meeting concluded with a reminder for residents to fill out forms if they wish to address the council on agenda items, ensuring community engagement in local governance.
