Muscatine prepares for spectacular July 4th celebration

In a recent government meeting, officials outlined plans for the upcoming Fourth of July celebrations in Muscatine, despite anticipated flooding that will affect the riverfront area. The riverside park is expected to be submerged, prompting a shift in the traditional parade and event locations.

The Children's Parade will proceed as scheduled at 9 AM, starting from the Pine Street parking lot and making its way to the Muster Public Library. Police will facilitate the route by adjusting barricades to ensure the safety of participants.

The main parade, which is set to begin at 4 PM, will now be staged at Kent Stein Park instead of downtown Muscatine. This change, proposed during a leadership meeting, is expected to accommodate a record number of participants, with 35 to 38 entries anticipated. The parade route will cover three-quarters of a mile, concluding at Division Street.

Following the parade, festivities will commence downtown at 4:30 PM, leading up to a fireworks display at 7:40 PM. The event will feature notable speakers, including Rear Admiral Pam Miller and Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks, who will present a Purple Heart award to Staff Sergeant Keith Ormsby. The fireworks show is expected to be one of the largest in recent years, unaffected by the flooding.

City officials are working to ensure that residents are informed about the changes and are preparing to distribute press releases to maximize community participation. The meeting concluded with a focus on community engagement and safety, as officials expressed excitement for the upcoming celebrations despite the challenges posed by the weather.
