New principal aims to elevate West Elementary to excellence

The regular school board meeting held on July 23, 2024, commenced with a pledge of allegiance and a prayer, followed by the approval of minutes from the previous meeting. All board members were present, including attorney Mr. Hudak, who joined via Zoom.

Superintendent Dr. Benning delivered a report highlighting recent events, including a successful school supply giveaway that distributed approximately 1,500 bags to students. He also introduced the new principal of West Elementary, Ms. Cole Black, who was selected unanimously for her extensive experience in elementary education and school administration. Dr. Benning praised her qualifications, noting her background in curriculum development, student welfare, and financial management.

Ms. Black, an Alabama native with over 13 years in education, expressed her enthusiasm for her new role and the potential for West Elementary to improve its performance ratings. Dr. Benning conveyed confidence in her leadership, stating that with her guidance, the school could elevate its rating from a B to an A.

The meeting underscored the board's commitment to enhancing educational outcomes and supporting new leadership within the district.
