Community rallies to support grieving families after tragedy

During a recent school board meeting, members took a moment to honor the memory of two students from the Hidalgo family, reflecting on the profound impact of their loss on the community. Board member Jensen expressed heartfelt condolences, emphasizing the remarkable efforts of teachers Danny Beck and Stephanie Blanding, who have faced challenging circumstances in the classroom following the tragedy.

Principal Chris praised the support from various staff members, including social workers and student services, who rallied to assist both students and teachers during this difficult time. Jensen highlighted the community's response, particularly the Parents Association of Wasatch School (PAWS), which has shown sensitivity and support not only for the Hidalgo family but also for the family of the driver involved in the incident.

In a moment of prayer, Jensen called for blessings and protection over the district's students and staff, urging everyone to act with urgency to ensure their safety. The meeting transitioned to the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Siraj Syal, the Director of Special Education.

Deputy Superintendent Jason Cox then introduced the Provo Way Awards, recognizing outstanding individuals within the community. He noted recent adjustments to the award presentation process, allowing recipients to prepare for their recognition. The board acknowledged several honorees, including Nate Warner, Hallie Kartchner, Teresa Dixon, Cody Arnnes, and Philip Sedgwick, celebrating their contributions to the district. A video tribute was shown, followed by an opportunity for board members to personally thank the awardees.
