City gears up for Earth Day cleanup and tree planting

During a recent government meeting, community members and city officials discussed upcoming local events and concerns regarding emergency preparedness.

One highlight was the announcement of the 8th annual Earth Day cleanup scheduled for April 27th, organized by the Dimple Dale preservation community. Joyce Walker, a representative of the group, detailed plans for the event, which will coincide with a ribbon-cutting ceremony by Salt Lake City County Parks and Recreation at the Wrangler Trailhead. Walker emphasized the importance of community involvement, inviting city officials, including Mayor Zlotanski, to participate. The cleanup will feature multiple work zones and a tree planting initiative, aiming to enhance the local environment.

In a separate discussion, Dave Eklund raised concerns about the city’s emergency preparedness efforts. He highlighted the need for additional support for Sergeant Amy Deneff, who has been managing emergency preparedness initiatives alone since budget cuts eliminated funding for additional personnel. Eklund urged city officials to reconsider their budget priorities to ensure adequate support for emergency services.
