Cities vie for millions in Mag Transportation funding

During a recent government meeting, officials discussed the Mag Transportation Improvement Plan, a critical initiative that allocates significant gas tax funds for infrastructure projects in Utah County. Bob Allen, a key contact at the Mountainland Association of Governments (MAG), was referenced as a pivotal figure in the planning process.

Every two years, MAG distributes between $60 million and $100 million in gas tax revenue, with cities across the county competing for these funds. The process encourages collaboration among municipalities, as officials often form alliances to support each other's projects in hopes of securing funding.

Currently, the city has submitted a proposal for the Center Street project, which is positioned as a major undertaking in the upcoming funding cycle. The project, which spans from Geneva Road to the freeway, has already gained traction, being ranked fourth among the initial 100 submissions. Further discussions regarding the specifics of the Center Street project are anticipated in subsequent agenda items.
