Detective honored for uncovering nationwide fraud scheme

During a recent town meeting, officials approved the minutes from two prior meetings held on May 21 and May 22, which included discussions on the purchase of the Silver Fork Lodge and a workshop with the planning commission and town council.

Cheryl Windsor, a representative from Unified Police, provided an update on crime statistics for the town of Brighton. In May, the police received a total of 99 calls for service, predominantly traffic-related, including one hit-and-run and two traffic accidents. Windsor noted an increase in traffic citations, primarily for speeding, and urged residents to remind visitors to secure their valuables while recreating in the canyons, anticipating a rise in vehicle burglaries this summer.

In a bittersweet moment, Windsor announced that this would be her last meeting as the county patrol detective for Brighton, as she transitions to a new role with the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office. She expressed gratitude for her time in the community and introduced her successor, Anna Walker, who will take over as the new detective starting July 1.

The meeting also highlighted Windsor's achievements, including her recognition as Unified Police Detective of the Year for her role in uncovering a nationwide fraud scheme. Chief Justin Hoyle praised her contributions and welcomed Sergeant Ed Tuhill as the new bridal sergeant for the area, emphasizing the importance of community service and continuity in law enforcement.
