City Commission Denies Controversial Land Use Amendment

In a recent planning commission meeting, members voted to provide a negative recommendation to the city council regarding JPNR Construction's request for a general plan amendment at North Lake Commercial Park. The proposal sought to change the land use designation from commercial to heavy commercial on a 2.99-acre site located at approximately 1250 South 1100 West. The commission cited concerns that the request was inconsistent with the zoning of nearby properties and could adversely affect public health, safety, and welfare in Lehigh City.

The motion to deny the request was passed unanimously, with members emphasizing that the proposed amendments did not align with the city's general plan. The commission clarified that while they are a recommending body, the city council will ultimately make the final decision on the matter. The council is scheduled to consider the recommendation on April 23, providing an additional opportunity for public comment, although it will not be a formal public hearing.

However, due to the negative recommendation on the previous item, the commission decided to table this discussion until after the city council's decision.
