Basswood Drive closure sparks confusion over public access

During a recent government meeting, officials discussed the upcoming closure and transformation of Basswood Drive, which is set to incur an estimated cost of $450,000. The costs associated with this project were detailed in Exhibit C of the developer agreement, which outlines extraordinary site costs and estimates from the public works department.

The project will involve the closure of Basswood Drive to general public traffic, although public safety vehicles will still have access. The road, which was originally a city street, has transitioned into private property owned by Subzero, a local company. As part of the changes, Basswood Drive will be converted into a cul-de-sac, with new curb cuts leading into the Subzero campus to clearly delineate private property from public access.

Officials acknowledged the complexity of the project and the need for clearer visual aids to help convey the changes to the community. The public bidding process will be utilized to ensure transparency and competitive pricing for the project, which will be managed by Subzero.
