Winston Salem declares June LGBTQ Plus Pride Month

The Winston-Salem City Council held a meeting this week, highlighting several upcoming community events and initiatives aimed at enhancing local engagement and celebrating diversity.

Among the key announcements was the indoor concert series at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds, featuring performances by Kim with Envision on June 29, Mark Chestnut with Presley Barker on July 26, and Joe De Mesina on August 17. City officials encouraged residents to attend these concerts, which are expected to positively impact the community.

Additionally, the Parks and Recreation department is set to host outdoor movie nights, starting with a screening of \"E.T.\" on June 15 at Parkland Park, followed by a popular event at Grant Park on June 28, featuring fireworks, food trucks, and live music.

The council also addressed food accessibility, announcing three discussions on affordable and healthy food options scheduled for June 14, June 20, and June 26 at various community centers. These meetings aim to foster dialogue around sustainability and food equity in the city.

In a significant cultural recognition, the council proclaimed June 2024 as LGBTQ+ Pride Month in Winston-Salem. This proclamation celebrates the city's commitment to diversity and inclusion, coinciding with the annual Pride Festival and parade. Jerry Moran, president of Pride Winston-Salem, accepted the proclamation, expressing gratitude for the city's support.

Lastly, the city was recognized in the U.S. News and World Report's 2024 rankings as one of the best places to live in the United States, further affirming its appeal as a vibrant community.
