Youth Mountain Biking Team Thrives and Inspires Community

During a recent government meeting, local youth representatives from the Cedar Valley mountain biking team passionately advocated for the expansion and support of mountain biking trails in their community. James Duncan, a 17-year-old team member, highlighted the positive impact of the mountain biking community, emphasizing its growth and inclusivity. He noted that mountain biking is one of the fastest-growing sports, attracting not only recreational riders but also high school athletes.

Duncan shared that the Cedar Valley area is a prime location for mountain biking, drawing teams from across the state and even out-of-state visitors. He mentioned the annual regional race hosted by the team, which attracts thousands of participants, showcasing the area's significance in the mountain biking circuit. The Eagle Mountain Bike Park was specifically praised as a notable success, recognized both statewide and nationally.

In a show of community support, Duncan collected 126 signatures from fellow students advocating for the preservation and enhancement of local trails, ATV roads, and horse paths. He expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming voting eligibility of himself and his peers, indicating a desire to influence local decisions regarding outdoor recreational spaces.

Another team member, Beau Campbell, shared his personal journey with mountain biking, describing it as a transformative experience that has greatly benefited his physical and mental health. He recounted how he began riding two years ago, forming friendships and integrating into the community after moving from Washington State.

The meeting underscored the importance of outdoor recreational spaces for youth engagement and community building, with the mountain biking team members calling for continued support and development of local trails to foster this growing sport.
