Parks Committee Unveils Ambitious Trail Improvement Plans

In a recent government meeting, the Parks and Trails Committee outlined a new annual approach to prioritize trail projects, aiming to align their initiatives with community values. The committee plans to present a comprehensive list of key trail priorities, fostering an interactive dialogue with city council members to reach a consensus on future developments.

Key projects discussed include the reconstruction of Anne's and Clark's trails affected by landslides, and the construction of an off-leash dog area at Deer Ridge, set to begin this summer. Additionally, the committee is evaluating the location for a disc golf course, currently on hold pending further site assessments.

The city has also approved an interlocal agreement with Lehigh City to develop trails on Draper City open space, with construction expected to commence shortly. A proposed connector trail along Traverse Ridge Road was deemed cost-prohibitive due to challenging terrain, but alternative options may be explored if directed by the council.

Other significant projects include addressing erosion issues along Canyon Road and improving trail crossings in Maple Hollow, with a budget request of $100,000 for necessary enhancements. The committee emphasized the importance of community input and collaboration in shaping the future of local trails and parks.
