City plans festive fireworks and major road closures for July 4

During a recent government meeting, the Rehoboth Beach City Commission approved the minutes from a workshop held on February 8, 2021, with two commissioners abstaining from the vote.

City Manager provided an update on the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, announcing a fireworks display scheduled for Saturday, July 6. The event will feature several parking restrictions and road closures, including the closure of the bandstand area to vehicular traffic from 6:00 PM to midnight. Notably, Rehoboth Avenue will be closed to traffic starting at 7:30 PM, with additional closures on Church Street from State Route 1 beginning at 8:00 PM. The festivities will kick off at 8:00 PM with a performance by the Funsters, leading up to the fireworks launch from the beach at approximately 9:30 PM. City offices will be closed on Thursday, July 4, but will open briefly on July 6 for voter registration ahead of the August 10 municipal election.

In addition, updates were provided on the construction of the beach patrol facility. The completion of wooden forms for the elevator pit and ATV garage is expected by the end of the day, with subsequent construction phases including backfilling and concrete pouring scheduled to continue over the next month. The construction management firm, EDI, will present further details on the project’s status, challenges, and financial implications at the upcoming workshop on July 8.
