Apache fire grows to 673 acres as containment efforts ramp up

In a recent government meeting, Chief Garrett Schoelen provided a critical update on the Apache fire, which ignited on the evening of the previous day in Southeast Palermo. As of this morning, the fire has expanded to approximately 673 acres with only 15% containment. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and further details are expected to be released later today.

Chief Schoelen reported that two structures have been confirmed lost, with damage inspection teams deployed to assess additional potential losses. Currently, eight zones remain under evacuation orders, while three zones are under evacuation warnings. Authorities are optimistic about reducing these zones as conditions improve throughout the day, allowing residents to return home.

The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) was activated last night, and an evacuation shelter has been established at the Butte County Fairgrounds, currently accommodating two individuals indoors and three outside. Animal support services are also in place, with facilities available for both small and large animals.

Over 200 personnel are actively engaged in firefighting efforts, supported by 30 fire engines, 10 bulldozers, and various fire crews, alongside aerial resources. Weather conditions are a concern, with potential thunderstorms and winds that could affect fire behavior. Despite having established lines around most of the fire, officials remain vigilant as they continue to monitor the situation closely.
