Economic Development Council Takes Bold Steps for Milford's Future

During a recent government meeting, Milford officials discussed several key initiatives aimed at enhancing the town's economic development and community infrastructure. A significant portion of the meeting focused on the Economic Development Advisory Council (EDAC), which is tasked with reviewing and implementing a comprehensive economic development plan originally established in 2009.

The council's charge includes developing policies that align with the Milford Board of Selectmen's goals and the town's master plan. Members emphasized the need to update the existing plan, which has not been fully implemented, and to streamline the permitting process to better support local businesses and residents. Selectman Philberg proposed a motion to formally charge the EDAC with reviewing the 2009 recommendations and developing actionable proposals, which was unanimously approved.

Two new members, Todd Leo and Dale White, were appointed to the EDAC for one-year terms. Both expressed their commitment to addressing current economic challenges, including inflation and housing affordability. Leo, a local financial planner, highlighted the importance of understanding community needs, while White, a long-time resident and former committee member, stressed the necessity of improving coordination among town departments to facilitate economic growth.

The meeting also touched on the need for better communication and transparency regarding the council's activities and the town's development strategies.
