Cobb County graduates achieve record scholarships and accolades

In a recent government meeting, officials celebrated the achievements of the Cobb County School District (CCSD) Class of 2024, which has set a record by earning $154 million in scholarships. This impressive total includes various types of scholarships such as National Merit, Military Academy, academic, athletic, and arts scholarships, highlighting the diverse talents of the graduating students.

The meeting also recognized individual accomplishments, including North Cobb student Alexis Holmes, who was selected as one of 28 juniors and seniors nationwide to attend the prestigious US Navy Flight Academy. Additionally, Jack Frangos, a student from Wheeler magnet school, was acknowledged for securing a competitive NASA Student Enhancement in Earth and Science Summer Internship, chosen from over 2,000 applicants.

As the new school year approaches, CCSD reported being 99.7% staffed for fall, thanks in part to the board's approval of an employee-centric budget. This budget not only ensures a balanced financial plan but also includes raises that have positively impacted recruitment and retention efforts among the district's 19,000 employees.

The meeting concluded with appreciation for the staff's dedication, particularly those involved in the ongoing Summer Learning Quest program, which offers free educational opportunities to nearly 4,000 students. Officials expressed gratitude for the hard work and commitment of the employees, wishing them a well-deserved summer break.
