New Art Deco Development Sparks Controversy in Historic District

In a recent government meeting, discussions centered around a proposed new construction project at 716 New York Street, located in the Grandview Heights Historic District. The project, presented by architect Steve, features an Art Deco design, complete with a balcony and integrated carport, and aims to complement the architectural style of the surrounding neighborhood.

The design includes a rooftop viewing area, which will be enclosed by a parapet wall measuring 25 feet and 10 inches, intended to provide safety for users accessing the roof deck.

Steve clarified that the design was influenced by the client's preferences and prior discussions with city officials, who indicated that the Art Deco style would be appropriate for this district.

The project is a revision of a previous application submitted in 2018, which proposed a different design for the now-vacant lot.
