City secures major FEMA grant for flood resilience project

During the latest city council meeting, several significant updates were made to the agenda, including the addition of public testimony and new funding agreements. Notably, agenda item 11a now includes testimonies related to the map amendment for Courthouse Square, with 27 exhibits added to the public record following a June hearing.

City Manager Matite presented a report highlighting recent grant successes for the community. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) awarded the city a substantial grant of $707,100 to support the implementation of a citywide flight resilience master plan. A kickoff meeting for the grant administration is scheduled for this month, with further details on the project timeline expected soon.

Additionally, the Montgomery County Health Efficient Electrified Climate Adapted Pilot Program (HEECAP) has also secured funding for local initiatives. Building Change Inc. and Habitat for Humanity Metro Maryland are among the recipients of this funding, aimed at enhancing community resilience and sustainability.

These developments reflect the city's ongoing commitment to improving infrastructure and community services through strategic funding and public engagement.
