City Council Faces Noise Complaints Amid Trash Pickup Controversy

During a recent Middletown city council meeting, discussions centered around a proposed permanent easement on city-owned property, which spans approximately 164.79 acres from Tuttle Road to Mile Lane to Ridge. The mayor has indicated support for a land swap involving this property and developer Dominic Demartino for his Kaplan apartment complex. City officials, including the planning and public works directors, are expected to follow up with residents regarding this matter.

In a notable public comment, resident Charles Davies raised concerns about noise disturbances caused by early morning trash collection at his apartment complex. He reported that trash trucks operate as early as 3:13 AM, violating the city’s noise ordinance, which prohibits such activities before 7:00 AM. Davies expressed frustration over the lack of resolution despite previous communications with the Department of Public Works and urged the council to enforce the ordinance.

The council responded to Davies' concerns, with the chair of public works promising to investigate the issue further. The meeting concluded with the council moving to address old business, including the reintroduction of a noise ordinance that had been tabled in previous meetings.
