Community raises alarm over turbine curtailment violations

During a recent government meeting, significant discussions centered around curtailment violations related to wind turbine operations in Logan County. A board member raised concerns regarding three specific incidents where Enel, the wind energy company, claimed no violations occurred despite evidence suggesting otherwise. The incidents in question included a March 31st event where turbines continued to operate despite a supposed curtailment, and an April 27th incident where warnings were issued but Enel maintained that no curtailment was necessary as the National Weather Service did not request it.

The board member expressed confusion over what constitutes a violation, questioning the criteria that would warrant a finding against Enel. With additional warnings reported in June and July, the member urged the board to prepare questions for Enel's upcoming appearance at the next meeting to clarify these issues.

In other meeting highlights, the board approved several appointments, including Kurt Homan to the Central Illinois Economic Development Authority and Sharon Mills to the DeWitt Bi-County Health Department. The board also discussed ongoing projects, including the Flex Point project and improvements on Revere Road, which are nearing completion.

The meeting concluded with a motion to develop a new office item, reflecting the board's commitment to addressing both operational and administrative matters effectively.
