Budget Hearing Reveals Key Changes Amid State Aid Cuts

The budget is designed to support the educational needs of approximately 95,100 students, with staffing costs representing about 86% of the total expenditure. The board noted that over the past decade, the average annual growth rate of the budget has been around 2.6%.

During the meeting, the board also discussed the upcoming county tax hearing and a special board meeting scheduled for September 23, where they hope to finalize the budget and file it with the state. The certified valuation for the district came in slightly lower than estimates, but the overall district value still reflects a 9.14% increase this year.

The proposed tax levy is set to decrease slightly, by about 1.25 cents, as the board aims to balance the budget while addressing the financial challenges posed by reduced state funding. No public comments were submitted for this meeting, and the board moved to adjourn after confirming attendance and compliance with Nebraska's open meetings law.
