Viewmont Vychelles celebrate historic state championship victory

During a recent Bountiful City Council meeting, community members gathered to celebrate local events and achievements, highlighting the importance of civic engagement and youth participation.

Councilman Murray opened the meeting by promoting a benefit concert scheduled for Friday at 7 PM at Woods Cross, featuring the band Toast. Proceeds from the concert will support the Bountiful Concerts in the Park series, with tickets still available for those interested.

Carter Black, representing the Bountiful City Youth Council, reported on the success of the recent Bunny Hop event, which saw 4,000 eggs filled with candy distributed without any complaints from parents—a notable achievement for the council. Black also encouraged youth to apply for positions on the council, directing interested individuals to the council's website for application details.

The council then moved to approve expenditures exceeding $1,000 for various dates in February and March 2024, alongside the January financial report, which was unanimously approved.

A highlight of the evening was the recognition of the Viewmont Vychelles, a local drill team that recently secured first place in both the military and show categories at the state championship, marking their third consecutive title. Principal Travis Lund and adviser Bailey praised the team's dedication, noting the rigorous training schedule that includes early morning practices and multiple evening sessions each week. The team members present, including seniors Addie, Zandra, Lauren, Isabel, and Kylie, were commended for their hard work and commitment to excellence in a sport that demands significant time and effort.

The meeting underscored the community's commitment to supporting local arts and youth initiatives, fostering a spirit of collaboration and pride among residents.
