City Council Moves to Restrict Fireworks Amid Fire Risks

The ordinance is a response to safety concerns raised by local fire officials, particularly Chief Stone, who presented data indicating a correlation between fireworks and fire incidents in the area.

Chief Stone emphasized the importance of maintaining the current boundary for fireworks, citing a significant increase in fire risk due to the growth of flash fuels following wet seasons. The chief referenced a heat map of fires from 2018 to 2023, highlighting that even a single fire ignited by fireworks can have serious consequences.
