Ohio Launches Innovative Treatment Center for At-Risk Youth

A new residential treatment center is set to open in Richmond Heights, Ohio, aimed at providing critical mental health services for children aged 5 to 17. This facility will operate under dual licenses as both a residential treatment center and an outpatient mental health hospital. The initiative is particularly significant given the over 20,000 children currently in the state's Child Protective Services (CPS) care, many of whom are placed in unlicensed facilities or hotels.

The center will offer 298 beds, with a portion dedicated to children facing severe trauma, including those affected by child trafficking and sexual abuse. In addition to residential care, the facility will provide free mental health screenings statewide, aiming to alleviate pressure on emergency rooms by directing individuals to appropriate mental health resources.

The initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance mental health services in Ohio, with plans to educate communities about available resources and the importance of seeking help. The center is expected to create over 300 professional positions, with 80% of staff being licensed clinicians, ensuring a robust workforce to support the mental health needs of children.

The facility's opening is part of a larger vision to establish similar centers across the country, with significant funding already secured to support this expansion. The Richmond Heights center is anticipated to break ground within 90 days, with plans for a public ribbon-cutting event to celebrate its launch.
