City approves major funding for public safety upgrades

During a recent government meeting, discussions centered on upcoming community events and significant financial decisions impacting local infrastructure and public safety.

Alderman Meeks provided details about the Juneteenth celebrations, scheduled to take place from 1 PM to 9 PM. While the primary location is Sunnissippi, there is a possibility of relocating to the Rockford Women's Club, pending confirmation. The committee organizing the event expressed hope for favorable weather conditions and gratitude for the community's support.

In the finance and personnel segment, Alderman Frost presented two key recommendations. The first involved approving a bid for the replacement of parking deck elevators, awarded to Sholstra and Sons for $1,143,427, with an estimated completion date set for 2025. This project will be funded through American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.

The second recommendation was for a joint purchasing contract with Axon Enterprise for public safety video surveillance solutions, amounting to $48,791.82 annually. This contract is set for one year, with the option for four additional one-year extensions, funded through the police department's operating budget.
