Historic Wildenberger Hotel site set for major redevelopment

In a recent government meeting, plans were unveiled for the redevelopment of the historic Wildenberger Hotel site located at 3770 South 27th Street. The property, acquired by the city through tax foreclosure in 2013, is set to be transformed by NVS Investments LLC, led by Rakesh Rihan, who operates two successful Indian restaurants in Milwaukee.

Rihan, affectionately known as Ryan, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the need for a larger venue to accommodate the growing demand for catering and events. He aims to create a restaurant and banquet facility that honors the site's historical significance while meeting modern business needs.

Architect Tom Stack of Stack Design Group provided insights into the property's rich history, which dates back to 1856 when it was originally the home of Jacob Nunnemacher. The site has undergone various transformations, including serving as a distillery and a campsite before becoming a hotel. Stack emphasized the importance of restoring the original architecture of the Nunnemacher home, which has been largely modified over the years.

The proposed redevelopment includes a historically accurate restoration of the existing structure, with plans for a substantial addition that will house a kitchen and banquet hall. The design aims to preserve the building's historical character while enhancing its functionality. Additionally, the project envisions outdoor dining spaces and potential retail opportunities, contributing to the revitalization of the area.

The meeting concluded with a call for community support and approval for the project, which promises to breathe new life into a significant piece of Milwaukee's history while catering to the evolving needs of its residents.
