Borough celebrates historic appointment of female police officers

In a recent government meeting, the council approved the hiring of two female officers, marking a historic moment for Millsville Borough as it welcomes its first full-time female police officers in over 26 years. Mayor Rachel Aitchell expressed pride in this milestone, highlighting the significance of the event for the community.

The meeting also recognized Officer Matthew Hammer, who is set to retire after 25 years of service. The mayor presented him with an appreciation award, acknowledging his dedication to the borough's residents.

Additionally, the council approved the June financial report and appointed David Sykes to fill a vacancy on the Parks Commission, with his term ending December 31, 2025. Both motions passed without opposition.

Looking ahead, the mayor noted that the two new officers are already state-certified and will undergo final training before officially joining the force, aiming to restore the police department to full capacity by September or October. The meeting concluded with a reminder about the upcoming National Night Out event on August 6, which will feature over 30 vendors and is expected to be a significant community gathering.
